Some rooms feel restful the moment you walk in. The reasons are usually simple: soft, even light, fewer visible objects and a clear purpose for the space.

Light and sound

Warm lamps at eye level feel calmer than a bright ceiling light. Rugs, curtains and books absorb sound and make a room feel quieter.

Fewer, better things

Closed storage for everyday clutter and one or two things you enjoy looking at on open surfaces go a long way, without any renovation.
